Inside the Town Hall, I find dozens of stalls selling comics and toys. Geeks of all stripes roam the floor, hunting for first edition Superman comics. For the first few years of high school I was definitely a nerd. My weekends were mostly taken up playing video games, watching pro wrestling and painting a miniature Warhammer army. Despite that, by some small miracle I found a girlfriend and beer found me, and my geek days were over.
I make no secret of the fact that I am a huge nerd about a variety of topics. Stereotypes that nerds are hopelessly awkward people who never get laid are simply untrue. In fact, a study focusing on lady gamers showed that nerdy women actually have a lot of sex , and have high rates of being in serious relationships.
Every subculture has its own permutations of sexual fetishism, and geek culture is no different. There are certain kinks you see again and again among nerds. Cosplay, obviously. But also things like bondage and corsetry, especially among goths. And of course there are a lot of geeks who are turned on by various kinds of technology, from simple sex toys to elaborate devices for delivering very precisely calibrated electrical current to very precise locations. It's not these fetishes define geek sexuality — far from it. I'm just saying that you see them a lot. Which isn't too surprising, given that many of the SF stories geeks love are full of psychic mind sex, futuristic orgies on giant halo worlds controlled by AI, robots who are "fully functional," shirtless vampires, magically sex-powered detectives, and of course ladies and gentlemen who wear nothing but teeny leather straps as they ride on the backs of wild Martian snake-dragons.
